Resolution: Demanding Restoration of the Constitutional Order

KING COUNTY DEMOCRATS CALLS ON ELECTED LEADERS TO REASSERT CONSTITUIONAL AUTHORITY AND RULE OF LAW

For Immediate Release: February 27, 2025

Seattle, WA— On February 25th, 2025, the King County Democratic Central Committee passed a resolution asking Washington’s elected officials to halt congressional action until constitutional authority and law is restored. The full text of the resolution follows:

Demanding restoration of the Constitutional order

Whereas the executive branch led by President Donald Trump oversteps its Constitutional authority, notably usurping Congress’ power to spend; and

Whereas President Donald Trump blatantly contradicts the law of our Constitution through executive orders, such as illegally attempting to end birthright citizenship; and

Whereas President Donald Trump bypasses representative democracy through empowering people to non-existent, unelected positions; and

Therefore, be it resolved that the Martin Luther King County Democratic Central Committee (KCDCC) demands Senator Patty Murray, Senator Maria Cantwell, Representative Suzan DelBene, Representative Pramila Jayapal, Representative Kim Schrier, and Representative Adam Smith use all available rules-based procedural methods, including filibuster in the Senate, to oppose key Congressional actions such as approving a budget, raising the debt limit, and approving nominees until Republican legislators join to reassert Congress’ authority; and

Be it further resolved that the KCDCC supports Senator Patty Murray, Senator Maria Cantwell, Representative Suzan DelBene, Representative Pramila Jayapal, Representative Kim Schrier, Representative Adam Smith, Governor Bob Ferguson, and Attorney General Nick Brown in all efforts to obstruct authoritarianism and to restore the Constitutional order and rule of law.
