Newsletter: Weathering the Storm
Focus is a precious thing, and right now keeping it can feel like trying to do your taxes outdoors in the middle of a hurricane. Every day the national political scene throws another unexpected gust to knock us off balance, but the work of creating what change we can goes on.
For our part, King County Democrats are focused on organizing a fundraiser luncheon to help school board candidate campaigns (more on that below), vetting candidates for endorsement, passing our own resolutions asking legislators to fight for the constitutional order of law, calling out financed political misinformation, and more.
Each of us contributes in our way, whether it’s prickly conversations over dinner or at a town hall meeting, waving signs at a certain car brand’s showroom, or simply surviving the day. All of it matters, and everyone gets full credit for trying. Coping with chaos is difficult, but as long as we continue to be there for each other, we will weather this storm.
There are many ways you can push back against the storm:
- We’re building up to get more Democrats into school board seats. If you are ready to take the leap and run for office, or just want to help the effort, please sign up!
- We’ll be hosting Protect Puget Sound: A Luncheon to Fight for Our Future on Saturday, April 5th from Noon to 1:30pm to help those school board campaigns. We’d love it if you could attend. Tickets start at $100. Sign up here!
- This weekend, on March 15th (the Ides!), we’ll also be hosting another Coffee with the Chair session, this time down at Poverty Bay Cafe in Federal Way, from 10am to Noon. We hope you’ll join us to share the concerns of your community and what we can do to help.
- Town Hall events will be happening next week! Check here to see the schedule for your area. Please come with your questions!
- Looking to join a protest? Check our Public Calendar, or head over to FiftyFifty.one to find one near you!
- If you can’t make a protest, you can always make a few phone calls. Check out 5calls.org for a very potent way to make an impact!
- Learn more about actions you can take at The Resistance Lab: Organizing for Justice with Pramila Jayapal on March 20th. Sign up to attend here.
And here are a few quick things you may find of interest:
- Former King County Democrats chair Shasti Conrad has been named an Associate Chair of the Democratic National Committee, and she’s ready to take our state’s lessons and successes last November to the rest of the nation!
- Senator Patty Murray has had a lot to say about recent moves by the new administration.
- Climate Solutions is looking for its Washington State Director, a full-time position. Think you’ve got what it takes? Head here to apply! Applications close on March 20th.
Lastly, if you know of anyone who has seen harm done by the Trump administration, please email [email protected]. Include the following: name of the storyteller, contact information (email and cell number preferred), which county/legislative district the story is from, a brief description of the story they would like to share, and a brief biography of the storyteller.
